Luang Prabang, Laos

I didn’t know what to expect visiting my first communist country, but I was excited to explore Laos. We flew into Luang Prabang, Laos and made our way to the Kounsavan Guest House. The first thing I noticed in the room was the mosquito net! I had never slept under one before and actually got pretty excited to try it out that night.

During our stay in Luang Prabang, we explored the riverside and saw lots of small boats.

We visited the Royal Palace complex and the antique car museum.

We walked up and down the main street a few times and stopped in several shops, restaurants and bars.

We hiked to the top of Mount Phousi to watch the sunset. This was one of my favorite views of our entire trip!

We explored the night market, tried a lot of different foods, and bought a lot of souvenirs.

One morning we got up early to watch the monk almsgiving. Unfortunately, our guesthouse complex had the gate locked and we couldn’t get out, but we were able to witness part of the ceremony from inside the gate.

Laos was such a nice surprise! I wish we had more time to visit Luang Prabang and more time to explore the country, but Cambodia was waiting for us!
