The next stop on my May 2010 California tour with my sister, Kelsey, was Hollywood. We got there super early because we had a fun packed day ahead of us. I’ll warn you ahead of time, I have a lot of pictures from our day in Hollywood. I hope you’ll enjoy them!
Our first stop was a walking tour. It’s been so long, I don’t remember the company we went with, but I’d recommend a walking tour. It was nice to have someone explain what we were looking at and also take us to some of the more popular sites. If we didn’t do the walking tour, I imagine our morning would’ve been mostly wandering around trying to figure out what we were looking at.
We visited the Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre, which is where they show a lot of movies and have stars or people that worked on the movie go and talk about it. Sid Grauman is also the guy that built the Chinese Theatre.
The walking tour took us along the Walk of Fame and pointed out different stars to us. The stars were everywhere! You can check out the Walk of Fame website to locate a star if you just want to see a certain one! Marilyn Monroe’s star is right outside the McDonald’s. M for McDonald’s!
I seriously loved that Winnie the Pooh has his own star! haha
This was probably my favorite part, seeing the hand and foot prints of the different stars! Any Harry Potter fans?
Here are pictures from the Chinese Theatre.
This is the church from the Sister Act movie. A lot of famous people attend its services.
After our walking tour, we decided to visit the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. We may have had a little too much fun posing with all the different wax figures. Here are a few favorites.
After the wax museum, we went on an open bus tour to see some parts of Hollywood that weren’t within walking distance. While we were driving around, our bus driver spotted Rick Fox and he came on our bus to talk for a few minutes. I had no idea who he was, but apparently he’s famous. Here’s his Wikipedia page!
Anyone recognize these dudes? They’re from the Night at the Museum movie!
Looking in on Paramount Pictures.
This was one of Michael Jackson’s favorite stores before he passed away.
We saw a lot of other restaurants, comedy clubs, etc. where now famous people once spent their time trying to get famous. I enjoyed the tour and it was nice to sit and relax while taking in the sites. After the bus tour, we got in our rental car and drove to Rodeo Drive to walk around. We didn’t go inside a single store since we couldn’t afford anything on that road, but it was still fun to walk around and window shop!
After Rodeo Drive, we set out for a good place to take pictures with the Hollywood sign. It’s been so long since we went, I don’t remember exactly where we stopped, but I followed directions I had found online. If you Google the best place to see the sign, there are plenty of options to choose from!
What a fun filled day! I definitely enjoyed exploring Hollywood and would recommend it as a stop for anyone in the area. Who knows, maybe you’ll see someone famous while you’re there!
